Shaw taking his time

With fall practices already in full swing, Orlando Dr. Phillips (FL.) WR Kenny Shaw is taking his time and focusing on this season. Last season heading into the playoffs, many considered Dr. Phillips the favorite to represent Central Florida in the state title game. With a state title on his mind, Shaw has his top schools but isn't really thinking a whole lot about the recruiting process.
"Recruiting has been going good, and I'm just handling my business," Shaw said. "We started practicing Monday and our first game is on the 30th against Flagler Palm Coast. My top schools are Tennessee, Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Ohio State and schools like that. Florida State is my leader right now and I'm looking to decide in the Under Armour All-American game. At FSU, I have a good relationship with my position coach (Lawrence Dawsey) and I like the atmosphere up there. I haven't really decided on visits yet, but I know I am going to visit Ohio State."
At 6-0, 170 pounds, Shaw is regarded as one of the top WR's in the 2010 class. Last season, he used his exceptional route-running skills and speed to break a number of individual school records. While tt's all about a state title this season, on Saturdays Shaw is really going to evaluate what each of his top schools are doing.
"I'm looking for schools that are going to air it out," he said. "I also don't really like to sit down and watch football so I want to get in the lineup early. There's a lot that's going to change, I already know that. That's why I'm not committing early and I need to be like a recruiter this year and watch a lot of football. I'm going to be looking at the records of each team, how many times they pass the ball, and that's what it all come down to."
Dr. Phillips has a number of big time prospects on their team. One of their prospects for the 2010 class, Ricardo Miller, has recently transferred to Pioneer High School in Ann Arbor, Michigan. For the 2011 class, the players to keep an eye on are RB/ATH Demetrius Hart and DB/LB Laquentin Smith. It has long been rumored that Michigan is in the drivers seat for Hart, but Shaw says it's too early right now. Wherever Shaw decides to go, you can be sure that he will recruit his team mates to follow him.
"Wherever I go, you already know I'm going to help recruit guys because that's how it goes," he said. "As far as Dee goes, I think it's too early for him. Once he gets up to like twelve offers, he's going to really see how recruiting is and you can't really decide early."
